A few months ago, Bridget and I were privileged to travel up to New York City and spend a wonderful weekend together. Read: No kids… Just the two of us. It was a total treat and we still laugh and talk about the trip.
The purpose for the trip was to spend some time with Julie and Cale, so that we could make some photographs together. We decided to meet at a Starbucks close to their apartment. Being the unseasoned travelers we are, Bridget and I took the wrong subway line and ended up walking many, many blocks to arrive at the destination. Thankfully to the iPhone I didn’t have to humble myself and ask for directions 😉
Once we finally arrived to meet them we spent some time talking, enjoying some coffee and walking some more. Central Park was our destination due to it being one of their favorite places. We had a very relaxed agenda which made our shooting time more enjoyable. Bridget was an excellent assistant too. (back in the day, Bridget used to work with me all of the time. These days she is too busy being a mom! She is my favorite travel partner tho.)
I had met with Julie and Cale one time in person so it was nice meeting up with them and getting a sense of their relationship together. Immediately it was apparent how genuine their connection was, which made photographing them a breeze… Each moment we recorded was effortless and real. Their affection for one another is something to be treasured.
Fast Forward to July. Their wedding day was here and again I was looking forward to being there for them. From talking with Julie prior to the wedding, I knew it was going to be a special day for their families. The day was incredibly organized and executed without a flaw. From my standpoint , just wanting to observe and react, I couldn’t have asked for a better day. My assistant, Rob, and I were able to quietly do what we do and capture the day honestly, without inserting ourselves into the mix. The backdrop for the evening was Armstrong Farms, which has a very warm and rustic feel to it. The staff as well as the entertainment added extra touches of elegance to the day.
A few images from the day.
